The New Year is HERE

It’s a new year.

It’s a great time to start over. Second chance. Or maybe third. Or maybe 50th! I love that God gives us new days, new weeks, new months and new YEARS. Of course we can start over, set new goals, give up past bad habits, etc at any time in our lives. But there’s something about a new day or year that just sets us up for a fresh start.

Lamentations 3 says: “The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By His mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!”
I love how these verses say that His love never ends, but also that His mercies are new everyday. So even though His love is always available to us, His new mercies in the morning call me to a new start. A new commitment to Him. A desire to make this day or year count more than yesterday.

Now even as I type this blog, I’m recognizing that the very commitment I’m making in 2011 is already at risk of being less than achieved! Fewer words. That’s it. More wisdom and fewer words. Now I can type an entire paragraph expounding on “fewer words” and what I mean by that. But I think that is my point this year. My goal is attainable. But without the Spirit of God, it will be impossible. I like words and use them ad naseam. After all, I’m the grand-daughter, daughter and wife of a preacher. For the preacher, words are his life.
And even though I’m not called to be a preacher (pastor/teacher), I preach to family and friends all the time. Too much, in fact! 🙂
But I really want my words to count this year in all of my relationships. So here’s to shorter blogs and fewer words.

Ann Landers said: The trouble with talking too fast is you may say something you haven’t thought of yet. 🙂 LOVE that.
James said: Be SLOW to speak and quick to listen.
So here goes. I hope that I will bless my friends and family with less words this year.
