We have one of those kids. On April 29, 1988, we had a daughter born a “mama” . . .
Today, we celebrate our oldest child, Amanda Lynn. Amanda is a typical first born in many ways. And many of those first-born qualities certainly have produced a wonderful little mama in our family. Amanda has been a great mama to her sisters – preparing after-school snacks when they were in school and she was homeschooled; babysitting MANY hours; fixing fun meals and serving all of us in her “restaurant”; sharing her clothes, thinking of special things to celebrate their birthdays or Christmas; and so many other ways. But nine years and one day after she was born, she became a second mama to her little brother. And she has been one ever since that day.
Tomorrow we celebrate our “baby”, Joshua Brent. Amanda and Josh have a very special relationship. Maybe it was the excitement Amanda had when she found out I was having a baby. She had wanted one of her own ever since she was 5! 🙂 Maybe it’s because their birthdays are one day apart. Maybe it is because one is the oldest in our family and one is the baby. Maybe it’s because there are nine years between them – enough for Amanda to feel the need to protect him.
I am not sure what it is. But they celebrate big birthdays this week. Amanda turns 25 and Josh, 16.
God blessed us so much with Amanda and Josh. I continue to pray that the LORD Jesus will shine bright in their lives. I am reminded of the prayer/song by the Gettys as I celebrate them this week . . .
As the road will rise and lead your feet.
On a journey of your own
May my mistakes not hinder you.
But His grace remain and guide you through.
This is my prayer for you.
Take His hand and go where He calls you to.
And whatever comes, seek Him
With all your heart. This will be my prayer for you.
Oh keep (them) in your care.
